Jake and Dannie Shruti and Bhushan were such a wonderful couple to photograph. Though they looked beautiful and natural together, they exuded a shy playfulness that told me their relationship was still full of the excitement of exploration. As we walked together through the streets and alleys of Beacon Hill, they would often wander ahead of us, whispering, only rush back and tell us with a grin that they had another idea for a pose.
Our shoot was after a New England snowstorm, with the streets covered with fresh snow. Shruti was initially concerned. To ease their worries, Jake and I drove down to Beacon Hill a few days before the shoot to make sure the locations we picked were nice and accessible. On the day of our Beacon Hill engagement session, it was a perfect sunny day.
I wish that I could go with them to India to photograph their wedding, but I must go on my own journey, just as they must go on theirs. I hope that the spirit of joy and tenderness that I saw with them in Boston accompanies them wherever they travel.
